The Postulant Period

Once a man is selected to become a Brother of Alpha Chi Rho, he is initiated as a Postulant. A Postulant is an uneducated equal, meaning Postulants are treated with the same respect as Brothers while they are learning about the Fraternity. This education process is what other fraternities call pledging. During this period, Postulants will learn about the history of Alpha Chi Rho, unity between himself and his Postulant Brothers, and Brotherhood with the greater Fraternity. Most importantly, however, the Postulant’s academics and extracurricular responsibilities will come first. A Postulant who does not excel academically is of no use to the Fraternity, thus, maintaining his grades is extremely important. During the Postulant period a great deal of time will be spent in Andruss library to ensure academic success. The Fraternity is very concerned with academic success and expects the Postulant to do as well as possible. Hazing. Hazing is something that is very hard to define. Some definitions will go as far to say that something as a scavenger hunt could be considered hazing. It is hard to escape stories today about fraternities in general, and the terrible things that can occur during some fraternities’ pledging. Stories of serious alcohol abuse, long meaningless tasks, and forced consumption of alcohol are the most frequent. In Alpha Chi Rho we believe that these activities are not only unacceptable, but are counterproductive. We teach Postulants about how to be a Brother, not how to embarrass or hurt one another. Remember, a Postulant is an uneducated equal; AXP men believe in respect and do not treat each other this way and will not treat Postulants this way. This is not to say that the Postulant period will be easy — it is in every way challenging. The Postulant Period is a time of personal growth where the benefits will by far outweigh the effort put forth. Throughout the Postulant Period, Postulants will be able to voice any concerns that they may have. These concerns will be seriously heard by the Brothers so that the Postulant Period is as beneficial as possible. Throughout the Postulant Period, the Postulant’s Big Brother will be there for him for guidance. One’s “Big” will meet with the Postulant throughout the week to bond with the Postulant and to see how he is doing. This is a great opportunity to appreciate the Brotherhood as a whole seeing that this is a first-hand example of the close ties that the Brothers have within the Fraternity. Alpha Chi Rho is further broken into “families.” During the Postulant Period, a Postulant and his family will come together at an event of the family’s choice. This is yet another opportunity to bond with the Brothers and appreciate the Postulant Period. College is a time for fun and growth; Alpha Chi Rho will help Postulants achieve this and move further in the future. The Postulant period can be one of the best experiences of one’s college career. The honor one feels as a Postulant, and especially when initiated as a Brother of Alpha Chi Rho, is in itself remarkable. As a Postulant one will make countless new friends. Postulants will not only meet Brothers, but also the people that we as Brothers have become friends with, women who have pledged sororities, Alpha Chi Rho alumni, college faculty, and many others. However, the people Postulants will become most familiar with are one’s fellow Postulant Brothers. Some may be people one has never met before or they could be a past friend, in either case the bond formed between Postulant Brothers is often fast and strong, lasting throughout college and beyond. Postulant Brothers will share many hours, experiences, and memories together throughout the Postulant Period.

Here at Bloomsburg University the phrase "Crow" is a commonality to all sororities and GDI's.  Once you are here, it is only a matter of time until you hear about Crow and meet our brothers.  As much as we love to give back to the community, improve the university, and shape individuals into being Men of Word and Deed, we do like to have a good time.  You will find brothers on campus rocking AXP across their chest's.

We firmly believe in being Men of Word and Deed, and follow our Landmarks, which you will learn about once you decide to rush.

This National Fraternity has played a big role here at the University and we are happy to keep growing.  We also recieved the "Greek Most Improved Chapter" Award at the University for this year!
